About
I recently graduated from the visual communication design program at Holon Institute of Technology. I am always curious about art, materials and connotations, typography, web design, motion and color. Also find interest in trends and the past and future of graphic design.
Ryoji Ikeda Catalog Book & Website
Ryoji Ikeda is a japanese artist who specializes in designing environment and sound. He brings spectators inside various spaces in which he projects video art mostly dealing with data and computers. His works resemble those of Yayoi Kusama, only his are in black and white and include sound. This combination creates a spectacular and nearly holistic experience.
His works are indeed breathtaking, but once I paused them in order to export one frame into a book, I was left with three black stripes that I couldn't work with.
How can you translate this experience into a book?
How can you convey a feeling, motion and sound within a page?
That was the question that challenged me the most while I was
working on the catalog.
I found the solution in irregular typography. I tried to be brave but not braver than Ryoji, so that he won’t be mad. In hindsight I could have been braver. Working on the website though was a substantial relief.
In a website environment it’s possible to present motion, the only thing I needed to choose was the right way to present Ryoji and his works.
